Academy 1/48 Sikorsky UH-60L Black Hawk

101st Airborne, US Army, Iraq 1991

Returning to the Gulf War I theme, but no longer in pink, this is Academy’s UH-60L Black Hawk with no aftermarket additions. See if you can spot the deliberate mistake…the rotors are completely wrong. In my keenness to have ejector pin marks on the rotors on the underside, three of the blades are on upside-down, with one the correct way up. So the rotor tips are pointing in all kinds of directions. Doh! The external pylon stubs were nicked from the MH-60G kit, as was the chaff dispenser. Finish is Humbrol green acrylic, not matched to any FS number as far as I’m aware (this kit was made back when ‘looks okay’ was good enough). No clear finish was used, so the decals horribly stand out against the matt green paint. Still, this was a nice kit and I was inspired to build two more — the MH-60G and MH-60K.

Year bought: 1995 (Beatties, Guildford)
