800 Naval Air Squadron, Royal Navy, HMS Triumph 1950
The sister kit to the Spitfire F.24 I built earlier is this Airfix Seafire FR.47. The same comments apply, the only real flaw being that high canopy, and I have another stashed away to build as the FR.46 version. I built this out-of-the-box, only adding wire to strengthen the wing folds. It’s a lovely kit and I finished it in Humbrol enamels, followed by Klear, an oil wash, and a matt coat. The kit decals were used and they’re fine, except that they are translucent. The wing stripes were painted on, except for the innermost white stripe, which is a decal (and allows the underlying serial code to show through!). I think I lost or broke the tail skid, so mine is made of stretched sprue.
