Hasegawa 1/48 McDonnell Douglas F-4C Phantom II

with True Details resin seats

171st FIS, 191st FIG, Michigan Air National Guard, USA 1984

This F-4C, the fourth Hasegawa Phantom in my collection, is exactly the same kit (even the same boxing) as my F-4D. However, I built this as one of the kit F-4C options and rescribed the raised panel lines. The only additions I made were some True Details resin seats. The finish is Humbrol enamel, but as they don’t make an ADC Grey, I used an approximate mix, which isn’t really that good. I’ve since started using Xtracolour for this colour to get a good match. The kit decals were fine and for the first time I used Microsol decal solvent. Using this improved the decal application markedly, but didn’t prevent some of the smaller decals silvering. I hate decalling! Some of the yellow and orange decals on the port side of the ‘plane have faded, which is a shame. Humbrol Matt Cote was the final clear finish. Overall this isn’t a bad kit: I was pleased with the rescribing, but there a few bits of lint and dust in the paint. This is always hard to avoid when I eat, sleep, dress, work, etc. in the same room.
